Child Murder Confession Raises New Questions
 
 選美小皇后兇殺案　嫌犯自白疑點重重
Authorities arrested a 41-year-old American man in Bangkok, Thailand Thursday in connection with a decade-old child-murder case.
John Mark Karr's subsequent confession to the 1996 killing of six-year-old child beauty queen, JonBenet Ramsey, seems to solve a mystery that has stumped investigators for years.
Or does it?
  警方星期四在泰國曼谷逮捕了一名四十一歲的美國男子，該名男子涉及一件懸宕十年的兒童謀殺案。這位名叫約翰•馬克•卡爾的男子，坦承在一九九六年殺害了六歲的兒童選美皇后瓊貝奈•蘭西，一件困擾調查人員多年的懸案似乎終於解決了。不過，真的是這樣嗎？
On December 26, 1996, police were called to the Denver home of John and Patsy Ramsey.
The couple said their daughter was missing and that they had found a ransom note demanding US$118,000.
After two searches of the house, JonBenet's beaten and strangled body was discovered in the basement.
  一九九六年十二月二十六日，警察據報前往約翰與佩西•蘭西位於丹佛的住家。蘭西夫婦表示自己的女兒失蹤，而且還發現了一張勒索字條，要求十一萬八千美元贖金。警方兩度搜索他們的住宅，結果在地下室發現瓊貝奈遭人毆打勒斃的屍體。
The case attracted a storm of media attention.
Suspicion was immediately cast on the Ramseys themselves, though the couple steadfastly maintained their innocence.

On the surface, Karr looks a likely suspect.
He has a past conviction for possession of child pornography and was at one time married to a 13-year-old girl.
But some observers are now questioning the validity of his confession.
  表面上，卡爾看來是個可疑的嫌犯。他曾因持有兒童色情資料遭到定罪，也曾與一名十三歲的女孩結婚。不過，現在有些人卻對他自白的可靠性提出質疑。
Karr's ex-wife has said that he was with her on the date of the murder.
Other details provided by Karr, such as his claim that he drugged JonBenet before "accidentally" killing her, contradict the evidence in the case.
Toxicology reports found no trace of drugs in the victim's bloodstream.
  卡爾的前妻說他在案發當天和她在一起，而且卡爾本身提出的其他細節也與此案的證據相佐，例如他聲稱自己先下藥迷昏瓊貝奈，然後「意外」殺死了她，但是毒物檢驗報告在死者血液裡並沒有發現藥物的蹤跡。
Patsy Ramsey died in June from ovarian cancer.
John Ramsey said he was relieved to learn of Karr's arrest.

"It's certainly a day we have been waiting for for 10 years," said Ramsey.
"I hope this is the first major step in really drawing this to a conclusion, but it also opens up old wounds, and that's painful."
