South Park takes revenge
on Chef
廚師老爹不滿求去 慘遭《賤客》賜死
South Park
has decided to have the last laugh in its recent
war on Scientology and the fringe religion's
more notable adherents.
The popular American cartoon
broadcast on Comedy Central in the U.S. and
syndicated on various international networks is
known for rude adult-oriented humor that often
pokes fun at celebrity, politics and organized
religion, among other targets.
The season premier of the show
kills off the popular character Chef, voiced
until recently by '70s soul singer Isaac
Hayes.
Hayes, a
Scientologist, announced earlier this month that
he was leaving the show because of its
"intolerance and bigotry toward religious
beliefs."
Hayes, who has been with the
show for a decade, said he objected to a recent
episode poking fun at his religion.
The shows co-creator, Matt
Stone pointed out that in over 150 episodes,
Hayes "never had a problem with the show making
fun of Christians, Muslims, Mormons or
Jews."
The episode in question
had been scheduled for rebroadcast last week,
but was suddenly pulled by the
network.
Comedy Central is
owned by Viacom, a company preparing to release
the film Mission Impossible 3 starring
another prominent Scientologist -- Tom
Cruise.
Cruise is also savagely
lampooned in the missing episode, leading some
to suggest that he pressured the network to kill
the episode.
The tenth-season premier
-- another satire of Scientology -- sees Chef
brainwashed, fall off a bridge and mauled to
death by wild animals, but only after outing
himself as a pedophile.
